Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu declared on Thursday that Turkey would not reverse its purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defence system and will take reciprocal action after reviewing the US sanctions imposed on the purchase of Russian weapons.

On Monday, the United States placed sanctions on NATO member Turkey’s Directorate of Defense Industry (SSB), its head, Ismail Demir, and three other officials over its acquisition of the S-400 missile.

On Wednesday, President Recep Erdogan claimed that the sanctions were a hostile strike on the defence industry in Turkey, and they would inevitably fail and censor the sanctions as a significant mistake.

2017 The implementation of the Countering America’s Adversaries by Sanctions Act (CAATSA) is intended to prohibit nations from buying military arms from NATO adversary Russia.

Reuters cited Cavusoglu as saying, “This isn’t following the rules of international law and it is a strategically and legitimately wrong decision,” If there is a way to reverse the decision, it would have happened by now,”If there was a way to revert decision, it would have occurred by now,” If it cooperated with Turkey and NATO, the United States could resolve the matter with good judgement, he added.

In comparison, Turkey claims that its procurement of the S-400s was not a choice, but rather a requirement, as any NATO partner could not secure a defence system on agreeable terms.

The U.S. believes the S-400s pose a threat to its F-35 warrior aircraft and the more robust NATO defence system. Turkey denies the allegations and claims that the S-400s are not going to be integrated into NATO.
